DENVER - Denver police are still trying to find a driver who crashed a car he allegedly stole, badly injuring his passenger in the process.
It started at about 7 a.m. Tuesday near East 12th Avenue and Pearl Street. The two-vehicle crash happened at the intersection of East 13th Avenue and Lafayette Street.
According to police, officers responded to a call about a man inside a car with a gun near 12th and Pearl. The responding officer flashed his lights to pull over the driver once he found the car, but the driver sped off around 7 a.m. The officer decided not to pursue the vehicle given the time of day and the area. However, that same officer was flagged to the area of 13th and Lafayette.
Reportedly, when the driver of the stolen vehicle ran a stop sign at 13th and Lafayette, he crashed into another vehicle. Witnesses said the stolen vehicle was airborne after hitting the moving vehicle.
The passenger in the stolen car was injured and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the moving vehicle appears to have minor injuries.
The suspect that was driving the stolen vehicle fled on foot. The vehicle the suspect crashed was reported as stolen.
Police say they found the suspect's clothes in a nearby alley.
