9NEWS wins 32 Heartland Emmy Awards including news and station excellence. Chris Vanderveen adds another nine Emmy awards to his already impressive resume.

DENVER – After winning its 15th consecutive Station of the Year award from the Colorado Broadcasters Association and taking the National Press Photographers Association Station of the Year title for the 12th time, 9NEWS captured the prestigious Emmy Awards for both News Excellence and Station Excellence at the 28th Annual Heartland Emmy Awards.

The awards capped a dominating July evening at the Seawell Ballroom at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts complex in which 9NEWS won 32 Emmy statues including awards for best afternoon (4 o'clock at 9NEWS) and weekend newscasts. 9NEWS President and General Manager Mark Cornetta said, "From our promotions and marketing department to the Gannett Graphics Group and the entire news and production staff, the Emmys recognized the consistent depth and excellence across our organization. Add to that the incredible support from our corporate leadership at Gannett, and it's clear we have the best tools and talent needed to serve our diverse and growing community." The 32 awards for 9NEWS are more than the combined totals of all other local news competitors combined.

9Wants to Know investigative reporter Chris Vanderveen was the big winner of the night, adding another nine Emmy awards to his already impressive resume. Vanderveen won Emmys for Journalistic Enterprise, Topical Documentary, General Assignment Report, Feature News Report, Human Interest Story, Specialty Assignment Report, Environment Program/Feature, Commentator, and Program Writer.
