DOUGLAS COUNTY - Three purebred German Shepherds were stolen from a private kennel late Friday night or early Saturday morning, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

The dogs were taken from Gunbil German Shepherds in Larkspur.

Police believe the thieves took the dogs between 10 p.m. Friday and 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

The kennel's owner told 9NEWS' Whitney Wild that two of the dogs taken were "basic trained," meaning they are house pets or for show. The owner said the other dog was "specialty trained" with some military and search-and-rescue training.

The sheriff's office is asking anyone who sees these dogs to use caution and to call the Douglas County Sheriff's Office tip line at 303-660-7579.
