DENVER - A new ranking of the most valuable brands in the United States includes seven Colorado companies valued at more than $1 billion, plus two more that are owned by a Colorado billionaire.
Brand Finance, a brand valuation consulting agency, picked the members of its "Billion Dollar Brands club" by factoring in future revenue and estimating the royalty rate that would be charged for use of the brand. Apple was the brand with the highest value, at $106 trillion.
Of the 500 brands, Dish Network had the highest ranking of any Colorado company. The Douglas County company was No. 101 with a brand value of $4.8 billion.
But the next two companies on the Brand Finance list -- QVC (No. 119) and UPC (No. 161) are owned by Colorado billionaire John Malone's companies, but not actually headquartered in the state. QVC, the home-shopping network, and cable company UPC, have brand values of $4.2 billion and $3.5 billion, respectively.
